Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get to make edits? How many?

We are a customer-service oriented business and have never had issues with making sure our clients are happy with the final edit. We try to streamline the media production process by asking clients to submit a list of desired changes after the rough draft, then we send a revised draft, after which usually one more round of revisions is enough to complete the video. Even so, we have never charged a client additional money for revisions that are part of the normal post-production process. Our goal is to make sure our clients are happy with the commercial, corporate, product, or training video they commissioned. We have an editor on staff whose job is to work with our clients in creating polished edits.

What type of equipment do you shoot and edit on?

Our video professionals use a variety of cameras, from DSLRs to high-end cinema cameras like the RED Scarlet and RED Epic. The type of camera depends largely on the budget and the videographer, though we have minimum standards and demand at least 1080p (Full HD) video quality for any of our shoots. For audio, we only hire professionals who use external microphones and can assure crystal clear quality for interviews. Camera mics are insufficient for professional production. We edit mostly in Adobe Premiere Pro, though using a variety of other programs to assist in the finished product. Our aim in everything we do is the highest standards in our video production services.

Who owns the rights to the final project?

Our clients own the rights to their projects and all footage shot for them. When we hire videographers, they are “work for hire,” so any footage they record on our behalf belongs to us, which in turn belongs to our clients who paid the bill. Clients can request all of the raw footage from a project, if desired. We make a best-faith attempt to keep all footage backed up redundantly for several years so that we can continue to serve our clients if they require re-edits, though.

How much does it cost?

We have packages ranging from $850 to $5,000, depending on the scope of the project and the client’s needs. Basic packages are usually for one minute video productions with minimal production requirements and a single videographer, while more advanced packages involve several crew members, script development, longer shoots, motion graphics, and extensive editing. If you price around, you’ll find that these are very reasonable charges for a Los Angeles-quality video production company that delivers the level of quality we do.

How does payment work?

We require a 50% deposit upfront and 50% pay at the conclusion of the project, after the final master of the video has been delivered. The initial deposit pays our hard costs for securing a videographer, pre-production planning, and all of the other costs that go into video production and post-production.

What about travel costs?

We have videographers throughout the United States and have spent years developing our network. Aside from great videographers in major U.S. cities, including the greater Los Angeles area, we have qualified professionals in many smaller cities and towns throughout the country as well. As such, there are no travel costs in working with JLB Media Productions. We are able to plan and coordinate shoots nationwide with video professionals who understand quality production standards.

Are your rates negotiable?

Rates are negotiable on bulk video production, so for many of our clients who plan a series of videos throughout the year, we are able to reduce costs slightly because of additional volume. Otherwise, on single videos, our rates are competitive and designed to assure quality production.
